Funeral services for Edna Dishon will be held at 11 a.m., Monday, March 7, 2005, at Zion Lutheran Church. The Rev. Scott Nagel will officiate at the services.
Pati Arnold is the organist and will accompany the congregation in singing, &uot;Softly and Tenderly,&uot;
&uot;How Great Thou Art,&uot; and &uot;Rock of Ages.&uot;
Honorary bearers are Edna’s twelve great-grandchildren.
Casketbearers are the grandchildren. Interment will be at Sunset Rest Cemetery in Northwood, Iowa.
Edna Theoline Dishon was born on Sept. 22, 1907, in Worth County, Iowa, to parents Edward and Thea (Wold) Olson.
She was baptized at Kensett Lutheran Church by the Rev. O.T. Lee. She was confirmed at Shell Rock Lutheran Church in Northwood by the Rev. A. J. Torgeson. Edna attended school in Worth County and graduated from the ninth grade.
On Dec. 10, 1925, she was married to Elmer L. Dishon in Mason City, Iowa. From 1945-46 they owned and operated a resort at Camp Lake, Minnesota, and in 1946 they were part owners of a restaurant and gas station in Osage. In 1947, they purchased a lake home on Big Rice Lake, south of Remer, Minnesota. There, she worked at Brigham Inn as store clerk, cleaned cabins and did laundry.
At Deer Haven Supper Club & Resort, she cooked and did waitressing. They lived in the summer by Remer and in winter lived in Albert Lea.
In Albert Lea, she worked for Sears, the Albert Lea Bakery, the Hamburger Inn, B & B Caf and the Dorman Hotel.
Edna moved to Appleton 10 years ago and lived at Riverview Apartments until last June when she entered the nursing home. She loved to dance in her younger days. She enjoyed crocheting, quilting, playing cards, bingo and doing crossword puzzles.
Edna died on Wednesday morning, March 2, 2005, at the Appleton Municipal Nursing Home. She had reached the age of 97 years, 5 months and 10 days.
She is survived by her son, James (and Carol) Dishon, of Appleton; five grandchildren, Jerrald and Kathy Dishon, James L. Dishon, Jillanne and Booker Gilliam, Jennifer Snyder and Cindy and Daniel Niesen; 12 great-grandchildren, Travis, Ashley and Jaye Dee Dishon, James L. Dishon, Shadreh, Quintin, Manassah and Meoka Gilliam, Serina and Derek Pikop, Alexandra Snyder and Tanya Senske; six great-great-grandchildren, Kayli, Joshua, Tavis, Toi, Paige, Seth and Olivie and other relatives.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Elmer, on Dec. 10, 1970; four sisters, Olga Haugen, Clara Wacholz, Pearl Skjeveland and Irene Dennis and three brothers, Elmer, Alvin and Marvin Olson.
