Eugene O’Marro, 84, Rochester

Eugene “Gene” O’Marro, age 84, of Rochester, died Sunday, March 27, 2005, at St. Marys Hospital Emergency Room.

Mass of Christian Burial will be 2 p.m. Saturday, April 2, at St. Pius X Catholic Church with the Rev. Paul Nelson officiating. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, April 1, at Mahn Family Funeral Home Rochester Chapel with a 6:30 p.m. scripture wake service, and prior to the service at the church on Saturday.

Eugene Edward O’Marrowas born on Oct. 31, 1920, in Austin to Dennis and Irene (Martin) O’Marro.

He graduated from Albert Lea High School. Gene started working for Benson Optical in Albert Lea before enlisting in the United States Army. He served from 1942 until 1946, including three years of service with the 113th General Hospital Persian Gulf Command in Ahwaz, Iran. He had a Master in Ophthalmic Optics from the American Board of Opticianry. Following his honorable discharge, Gene returned to Albert Lea and rejoined Benson Optical and transferred to Rochester. On July 9, 1951, Gene married Mary Margaret Doyle in Rochester. Following their marriage the couple lived in Rochester where Gene was the owner of Professional Opticians, a member of St. Pius X Catholic Church and the Elks Lodge #1091 of Rochester. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, bowling, dancing and most of all his family and people.

Gene is survived by his wife, Mary of Rochester; one daughter, Ann M. Farmer of Rochester; two sons: Kevin P. (Julie) O’Marro of Rochester, and Timothy M. (Marie) O’Marro of Mantorville, Minn.; five grandchildren; one great-grandchild; one brother, Robert O’Marro of Spokane Valley City, Wash.; and several nieces and nephews.

His parents and one sister, Eileen, preceded him in death.
