Herbert Trier, 91, Albert Lea

Herbert C. Trier, age 91, of Albert Lea, formerly of Emmons, died Sunday, April 10, 2005, at the Albert Lea Medical Center in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Friday, April 15, at Scarville Synod Lutheran Church with Rev. Tom Rank officiating. Burial will be held at Oaklawn Chapel Gardens in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.

Visitation will be Thursday, April 14, from 6 to 8 p.m.at Mittelstadt Funeral Home, 902 E. Main St., Lake Mills, Iowa, and will continue one hour prior to services at the church on Friday.

Herbert Christov Paul Trier was born on Feb. 7, 1914, and grew up on the family farm outside of Fort Wayne, Ind., to parents Louis and Emma (Meyer) Trier. He was baptized and confirmed at Trinity Lutheran Church in Fort Wayne.

Herb later became the manager of the Soo Veneer Mill in Sault Ste. Marie, Mich. He was very active at church, serving many years as the chairman of Immanuel Lutheran Church. Most of his retirement years were spent in Lake City, Iowa, and recently, he was a resident of St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Herb is survived by his wife, Lavine (Jacobs) Trier; four sons: Charles and Katrin Trier of Spokane, Wash., Robert and Patty Trier of Princeton, Minn., Norman and Sharon Trier of Davenport, Iowa, and Bob and Ann Jacobs of Ormond Beach, Fla.; four daughters: Annette Trier at Bethesda Lutheran Home in Watertown, Wis., Clarice and Doug Guelker of Albuquerque, N.M., Emily and Jim Faugstad of Emmons, and Jennette (Jacobs) and Ben Herbrich of Hollis Hills, N.Y.; 26 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; a brother, Elmer Trier of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; and two sisters: Pauline and Walt Kaiser and Dorothy Trier of El Monte, Calif.

He was preceded in death by his parents: Louis and Emma of Ft. Wayne, Ind.; his first wife, Martha (Bouman) Trierof Sault Ste. Marie, Mich.; and a sister, Regina Trier of Ft. Wayne, Ind.

Herb was a loving, Christian husband, father, and grandfather. Blessed be his memory.
