Loren Cornelius, 93, Blooming Prairie

The funeral service for Loren N. Cornelius, of Blooming Prairie, will be held 1 p.m. Thursday, April 14, at the United Methodist Church, Geneva. The Rev. Gary Liker will officiate. Interment will be in the Geneva Cemetery. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Ellendale, and one hour before service at the church.
Loren died April 11, 2005, at the Owatonna Hospital, Owatonna. He was 93 years old.
Loren was born in Freeborn County on April 27, 1911, the son of Hudson and Edna (Montanye) Cornelius. He had lived in Freeborn and Steele Counties. He was married to Katherine Smith on March 17, 1932. He was a member of United Methodist Church in Geneva. Loren was a hard worker and had farmed all of his life along with driving truck for Misgens.
Loren enjoyed fishing, playing cards and traveling.
Loren is survived by his wife of 73 years, Katherine of Blooming Prairie; six children: Eugene (Berniece) Cornelius of Ellendale, Vernon (Jennifer) Cornelius of Geneva, LaVonna (Don) Ruhl of Ellendale, Eileen (Elroy) Utpadel of Owatonna, Verna (Richard) Wise of Parkersburg, Iowa, and Debra Hensrud of Owatonna; 24 grandchildren; 53 greatgrandchildren; 14 great-greatgrandchildren; sister-in-law, Lillian Knudson of Ellendale; and cousin, Willie Bottin of Mountain Lake, Minn.
Loren was preceded in death by his parents; son, Melvin and his wife Lyda Cornelius; sister, Ruth and her husband Orval Ehlert; brother, Marvel “Bud” and his wife, Bernice Cornelius; and two great-great-grandchildren.
