Elizabeth Julia Haddy, 89, of Scottsdale, Ariz., formerly of Albert Lea, passed away on June 15,
2005, in Scottsdale, Ariz.
Elizabeth was born in Blue Earth, Minn., on Sept. 16, 1915, the eldest child of Thomas and Frances Shaheen Haddy. She grew up in Walters and attended Business College in Mason City, Iowa. She worked in her father’s general merchandise stores both in Kiester and Walters.
She was married to John Haddy on Aug. 6, 1933. During their 68 years of marriage, they owned and operated a general store in Walters, Minn., Douds Market in Los Angeles, Calif., Haddy Egg Co. in Albert Lea and Suncrest Poultry in Phoenix, Ariz.
Those who knew her will remember her for her wonderful smile and her gentle spirit that touched everyone. She was truly an angel on earth and will be dearly missed.
She is survived by her sisters, Beatrice Abraham of Scottsdale, Ariz., Vernita Haddy and Juanita and Richard Landon of Las Vegas, Nev., and brothers Joseph and Dorie Haddy of Riverside, Calif., and Francis and Terry Haddy of Rochester; sisters-in-law Celia Risk of Phoenix, Ariz., and Lucille Evans of Fountain Hills, Ariz., and brother-in-law Albert and Delores Haddy of Phoenix, Ariz.; and her many loving and devoted godchildren, nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband John Haddy; her parents; sister Lucille Haddy; sisters-in-law Freda Burger, Vivian Zachar, and Mary Shadid; and brother-in-law Sam and Fannie Haddy.
Visitation was held at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 4530 East Gold Dust Ave., Phoenix, Ariz., at 10 a.m. Saturday, June 18, with Services at 11 a.m. Interment will be at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church Cemetery in Cedar Rapids, Iowa. Arrangements were entrusted to Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home.
