Jane Adams is taking the plunge.

As a certified public accountant she has owned her own business since 1992, but it wasn’t until recently that she decided to move her business, Jane Adams, P.A., into a more permanent, long-term location.

Now, construction is under way on a 2,300-square-foot building at the corner of Sykes Street and Ekko Avenue, east of HyVee.

&uot;I am very excited about it,&uot; Adams said. &uot;We will be moving, hopefully, by the end of the year. Nov. 1 would be nice, but I know you can run into construction delays.&uot;

The new location will be two and a half times the size of the current location on East Main Street.

&uot;It will be a very simple building, nice, but not extravagant,&uot; Adams said. &uot;It will be more adequate space to better serve our clients. The reception area will be nicer to allow more privacy with client information, and it will allow my business to grow with a few more employees and make things run more efficiently during the tax season.&uot;

Adams will be taking on a partner at the new location: Karen Winter.

&uot;I decided to take on a partner so that I can better serve my clients,&uot; she said. &uot;We can offer a multitude of services and out clients can have one more person to go to if I’m not here. Someone else can be in charge which will give us more flexibility. Plus she is a very talented person.&uot;

There are five employees at the East Main Street location and Adams usually takes on two more during tax season. In the new location, she is hoping to take on three.

&uot;We see a lot of different industries, but primarily we work with small businesses,&uot; said Adams. &uot;We serve a variety of needs, with accounting, payroll services, individual taxes and business extras, as well as accounting software and training. We are here to help them be more reassured that their books are accurate at the end of the year.&uot;

While Adams lives in Freeborn, she said she chose Albert Lea for her permanent location because she has a &uot;really good client base here, and I want to build around that.

&uot;Albert Lea is a good community, good things are happening here and I wanted to be a part of that,&uot; she said.
