Edna Steele, 87, Albert Lea

The funeral services for Edna Steele, age 87, will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday, July 20, at Concordia Lutheran Church of Pickerel Lake. The Rev. Wendy Anderson will officiate. Interment will be in the Pickerel Lake Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before services at the church.
Edna died Sunday, July 17, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Edna Alvyna Steele was born Dec. 31, 1917, in Kuroki, Sask., Canada, to H. Edward and Amelia (Syverson) Mellum. She graduated from High School in Kensett, Iowa, and received a beautician’s license from Mankato Beauty School.
Edna married Franklin C. Steele Feb. 11, 1943, in Glenville. They farmed together near Conger, moving to Albert Lea in September 1996. Edna was very active in and held offices in Concordia Lutheran Church women organizations, circles, Junior Lutherans, Altar Guild, Conger Mothers Club, Band Mothers and Conger Senior Citizens.
Edna is survived by her husband, Franklin; children: Franklin Steele Jr. (Carolyn) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Sonja Sherburne (Earl) of Sioux Falls, S.D., Althea Tenold of Albert Lea, and Galen Steele of Sioux Falls, S.D.; grandchildren: Michael Steele (Jamie) of Lennox, S.D., Ryan Tenold (Trish) of Ft. Ripley, Minn., Darren Tenold of Mankato, Erik Sherburne and Kirk Sherburne of Roseville, Melinda (Pat) O’Connor of Sioux City, Iowa, and John (Emily) Steele of Ogden, Kan.; four great- grandchildren: Kaleb and Jesmarae O’Connor of Sioux City, Iowa, Kyra Steele of Lennox, S.D., and Jacob Tenold of Ft. Ripley, Minn.; sister, Evelyn (Sparky) Gore of Glenville; and sister-in-law, Wilma Mellum of Sorona, Wis.
Edna was preceded in death by her parents; son, Nealin S. Steele; infant grandson; brothers: Walter, Elmer, Lloyd and Lawrence Mellum; and sisters: Beulah Hortenbach and Ruth Nystedt.
