Harry Dean Reeder Jr., age 72, of Northwood, Iowa, died Wednesday, July 6, 2005, at Mercy Medical Center-North Iowa in Mason City, Iowa, surrounded by his loving wife and family.
Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, July 9, at the First Lutheran Church, 309 North 9th Street, Northwood, with the Rev. Wayne Hagen officiating.
Burial will be in the Greenwood Cemetery in Glenville. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m.today, July 8,
at the Conner Colonial Chapel, 1008 First Ave. S., Northwood, and one hour prior to service time on Saturday at the church.
Harry Dean Reeder Jr., was born on March 5, 1933, in Northwood, Iowa, the son of Harry Stanley and Ella (Nelson) Reeder.
He attended and received his education in the Northwood Community Schools. After completing his schooling he worked at a foundry in Albert Lea before moving to California where he worked for a moving company. Harry moved to Glenville where he began hauling livestock, before moving to the Bolan, Iowa, area where he started farming until moving to Northwood in 1962, when Harry and Arlys purchased the Northwood Hotel, and later started to haul livestock with his brother Robert Reeder, and also raised livestock near Northwood, and continued to farm until his death.
He was united in marriage to Arlys Brackey on June 22, 1957, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.
Harry enjoyed gardening, woodworking, fishing, golfing, and being out at his farm, but his great love and enjoyment was being around his wife, family and grandchildren, and visiting with his neighbors and friends.
He was a member of First Lutheran Church in Northwood, and the Northwood Country Club.
Left to cherish his memory is his wife, Arlys Reeder of Northwood; his children: Kevin Reeder and his wife Karen of Barnum, Iowa, and Kim Geffert (Randy Hegland of Austin, and his children, Kyle Hegland of Austin, and Katie and Nick Hegland of Hampton, Iowa; four grandchildren: Casey and Jordan Reeder of Barnum, Iowa, and Laura and Kelli Geffert of Austin; a brother, Larry Reeder and his wife Joyce of Elysian, Minn.; three sisters-in-law: Phyllis Mortenson, Louise Haugebak and Lovone Reeder, all of Northwood; as well as other relatives and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; infant son, Scott Reeder; grandson, Nathan Geffert; brothers: Robert, Don, and Chuck Reeder; and a sister, Marion Reeder.
