Funeral services for Jean M. Hovland, age 58, of Albert Lea, will be at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, at Grace Lutheran Church.

The Rev. John Henriksen will officiate.

Interment will be in Greenwood Cemetery, Glenville.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Monday, July 11, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the time of the service at the church on Tuesday.

Jean died on Friday, July 8, 2005, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.

Jean Marie Hovland was born on Jan. 27, 1947, in Northwood Iowa, the daughter of Roger and Arlene (Flatness) Saltou.

She lived on her family’s farm in the Northwood area for a few years and then moved to Glenville where she attended school.

Jean graduated from Glenville High School in 1965.

On Aug. 6, 1965, she was united in marriage to Merle Hovland at the First Lutheran Church in Albert Lea.

Jean was a member of Grace Lutheran Church.

Family was the most important thing in Jean’s life.

She loved spending time with her children and her grandchildren, enjoyed family reunions, her pets, and also enjoyed sewing and reading.

Survivors include her husband Merle; her children Kevin and his wife Kim Hovland of Milliken, Colo., Candace Hovland of Albert Lea, Trevor Hovland of Glenville, and Heidi Hovland of Albert Lea; grandchildren Alix, Evan, Shalisa and a new grandbaby-to-be; sisters Shirley Avery of Albert Lea, Sandy and her husband Luis Cardona of Albert Lea, Vicky and her husband Paul Johnson of Albert Lea, and Connie and her husband Dave Finch of Gainesville, Fla.; brother Randy and his wife Donna Saltou of Glenville; brother-in-law Mark Hovland of Glenville; and many nieces and nephews.

Jean was preceded in death by her parents; her sister Mary Schaefer; her brother Dennis Saltou; her mother-in-law Helen Hovland; and her fathers-in-law Juan Hovland and Merle Kaster.
