Funeral services for Kenneth W. Peterson, age 82, of the Manchester area, will be held 10:30 a.m. Friday, July 8, at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home. The Revs. Dennis Frank and Jeff Laeger-Hagemeister will officiate. Interment will be in the West Freeborn Cemetery with military honors accorded by the Freeborn County veterans’ organizations. Visitation is from 5 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home, and one hour prior to the service at Bayview.

Kenneth died Tuesday, July 5, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Kenneth W. Peterson was born on the family farm on June 27, 1923, the youngest child of Lauritz and Gena (Nelson) Peterson and attended the one-room schoolhouse of District #21, as did his siblings. He served in the United States Army during World War II in the Aleutian Islands and Anchorage, Alaska. Ken, together with his two brothers, took over the home farm that had been purchased by their grandparents in 1856. They added another 160 acres &045; including the woods &045; with permanent deer stands and a pond they kept stocked for all their nieces and nephews. He is lovingly remembered by all of them. Ken was a member of West Freeborn Lutheran Church and the American Legion.

Survivors include his brother, Arville on the farm; sisters: Myrtle Bomer and Alpha Brekke of St. John’s; and several nieces and nephews.

Kenneth was preceded in death by his parents; brother, Norman; sisters: Alice Christenson, Harriet Trueter, and Gladys Raimer; brothers-in-law: Don Christenson, Willis Trueter, Ralph Raimer, Sam Brekke, and Alva Bomer; and niece, Caroline Brekke.

Ken was attended by hospice after being a resident of St. John’s for a year and five months suffering from asthma, Parkinson’s, a heart condition, and then cancer.
