Once again, the residents of Freeborn County show their true colors: they raised approximately $90,000 for cancer research &045; that’s more than $16,000 above the $75,000 project goal &045; during the American Cancer Society’s Relay for Life event last weekend.
Consider these other statistics:
– 3,992 luminaries, sold in honor of cancer victims and survivors, lined the walking path at the Freeborn County Fairgrounds, and spelled out the word &uot;hope&uot; in the grandstand.
– Approximately 100 cancer survivors attended
– 39 teams of people walked for cancer
–
22 volunteers coordinated the event
Kudos to everyone, particularly the co-chairwomen Kim Nelson and Jenny Habana, who worked tirelessly &045;and put in fulltime hours &045; to ensure the Relay’s success.
With assistance from countless others, the pair have
laid a solid foundation of planning over the past three
and surpassing this year’s goal by such a large margin tells of their dedication.
Of course, all the planning in the world means nothing if no one attends an event and that’s where county residents stepped up and have made such a difference.
Thank you to all who participated, planned or in some way played a part in this year’s Relay for Life event.
