Tonight’s Party for the Lakes, sponsored by the Shell Rock River Watershed District, will offer residents a chance to hear speaker Sheryl Corrigan from the Minnesota Pollution Control Agency, learn more about the velocity culvert, one option presented by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resource’s to keep harmful carp out of the lake, and perhaps most importantly, learn more about how the watershed will use a sales tax option, scheduled for a special election in November to improve lake quality.
The event is designed to inform farmers, voters, Pickerel Lake residents and kids about issues surrounding improving our waters, a cornerstone of future development in Albert Lea and Freeborn County.
In addition, a volunteer of the year will be announced and the Lakes Restoration Committee commemorative coin will be on sale. Proceeds from the auction of the No. 1 coin will be used in further water quality education efforts, particularly in schools.
Plan on attending the party tonight, beginning at 6 p.m. at the City Arena, it will be informational and fun.
