Bulldogs’ tourney win gives coach 300th victory

MANLY &045;&160;The 13th-ranked Lake Mills volleyball team won the North Central Tournament for the third consecutive year, and in the process gave head coach Jim Boehmer his 300th career win.
The Bulldogs got their day started by downing eventual runner-up Nora Springs-Rock Falls with a 21-18, 21-10 victory.
Megan Pederson had 10 kills, Jennie Finer had 13 assists and Sam Arneson was 10-of-11 serving with two aces.
Lake Mills dominated Clarksville in the next round 21-8, 21-10 and never led Garner Hayfield in the match cruising to a 21-4, 21-4 win.
The Bulldogs would drop their lone game of the tournament against North Central but still managed a convincing third game win 21-15, 18-21, 15-4.
Finer and Caitlin Moore were perfect from the service line in the match, Pederson had 18 kills and Melissa Brackey came through with 17 digs.
Lake Mills closed out the tournament with a 21-11, 21-14 victory over Eagle Grove.
&uot;We played well most of the day.
NSRF is a solid team and to get by them to start the day was nice,&uot; said Boehmer.
&uot;We have some individual player items to improve, but as a team we are playing well.&uot;
Brackey finished the day with 35 digs, Finer had 74 assists and Pederson had 50 kills.
The Bulldogs are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Mason City to take on Newman.
