James Bendixen, 83, Austin

James R. Bendixen, age 83, of Austin, died Monday, Sept. 5, 2005, at St. Marys Hospital in Rochester.
He was born March 13, 1922, in Lamberton, Minn., to Nicholas and Hildur (Benson) Bendixen. He graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1940. He went to work for the Wilson Company in Albert Lea until 1942 when he enlisted in to the U.S. Navy. He married Marjorie Doud on June 30, 1943, at the Christ Episcopal Church Parsonage in Austin. He served in the Navy aboard the U.S.S. Tisdale in the South Pacific from 1942 until 1945. Jim returned home to Albert Lea where he continued to work for the Wilson Company until his retirement in 1979 after 39 1/2 years with the company. In 1981 Jim and Marjorie moved to Cross Lake, where they lived until 1999 when they moved to Austin.
Jim was a member of Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin, past member of Grace Lutheran Church in Albert Lea, Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 and VFW Post 447,
A memorial service will be held 11 a.m. Friday, Sept. 9, at Our Saviors Lutheran Church in Austin with the Rev. Glenn L. Monson officiating. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery in Albert Lea. Albert Lea American Legion Post 56 and VFW Post 447 is in charge of military rites. Visitation will be held at the church for one hour before the service.
He is survived by daughters: Linda R. Andersen of Albert Lea, and Mary (Charles) Moline of Austin; grandchildren: Steve (Sue) Andersen of Albert Lea, Paul (Denise) Andersen of Albert Lea, Stephanie (Tom) Grotbo of St. Bonifacius, Minn., and Suzanne (Ryan) Schmidt of Austin; great-grandchildren: Christian, Gracelyn, Alicia, and Anna Andersen, Nathan Schmidt and Jordyn Grotbo; and nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Marjorie, in 2003; and son-in-law, Oluf Andersen.
