editorial: Showboating cut the throats of many in town

The person flying the plane and banner over the city Saturday did nothing wrong, and yet did everything wrong.
This person was disruptive, rude and crass and while we respect the right to free speech, we don’t approve of inconsiderate behavior.
Message aside, the plane was disruptive for the hundreds of visitors in town for the Big Island Rendezvous. Many people were heard to ask if it would be flying the next day as well. We assume if it was, those visitors would change their plans to visit again.
The flier was also rude to organizers who worked so hard to make the Rendezvous the tradtional draw it is again this year.
Ruining the fun of others, being inconsiderate and disruptive is not behavior typical of a rational, thoughtful adult who wished to express an opinion, but rather it is behavior we’ve noticed in toddlers who believe the world revolves around them.
We have no problem with opposition to the sales tax &045; we encourage a healthy, respectful discussion on the topic. We cannot condone the showboating displayed on Saturday.
Another point which must be stressed is the pointless &045; and detrimental &045; effect this action had on visitors. One person chose to undermine the efforts of many and in the process offended the very visitors we are trying to bring to town.
Residents &045; for or against the sales tax &045; should be outraged that visitors, which local businesses count on to remain solevent, were so offended many have said they won’t return.
How will this benefit the community?
