Pearl Winters, 101, Whitewater, Wis.

Pearl Vangeline Vollum Winters, 101, died Oct. 20, 2005, at Fairhaven Retirement Community, in Whitewater, Wis.
She was born Pearl Vangeline Vollum Aug. 21, 1904, in Riceland Township, Freeborn County, the daughter of Nels and Bertina (Prestegaad) Vollum. She grew up in Albert Lea and graduated from Albert Lea High School in 1924, Teacher Training Class in 1925 and Winona State Normal School in 1929. From 1929 until 1935 she taught elementary school in La Crescent, Minn. She was married to Chester J. Winters Aug. 23, 1935 and lived most of her adult life in Minneapolis. She taught in the Minneapolis Public Schools from 1952 until 1969.
Pearl joined Grace University Lutheran Church, Minneapolis in 1947 and was an active member until her move to Whitewater in 1998. She was also a life member of Eastern Star. During her retirement years she was an active volunteer. A few of her activities include serving on the Church Council, Altar Care, Meals on Wheels and tutoring English as a second language. She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister.
Pearl is survived by one daughter, Carolyn (Gordon) Winters Folke, Whitewater, Wis.; three grandsons, Christopher (Sandra) Folke, Brooklyn Park, Timothy (Patrice) Folke, Skokie, Ill., and Daniel (Denise) Folke, Fort Myers, Fla.; and four great grandchildren, Trevor, Emma, Callie and Lena.
She was preceded in death by her husband, three brothers and one sister.
A celebration of her life and Service of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, Oct. 27, 2005, at 11 a.m. at the Grace University Lutheran Church in Minneapolis. Lunch and a time of fellowship will follow at the church. Visitation will be at the church from 10 to 11 a.m. All friend and relatives are invited to attend and remember Pearl. Burial will follow at Lakewood Cemetery in Lake City.
