Potent passing attack leads G-E to victory

CLEVELAND &045;&160;Cleveland crowded the line of scrimmage daring Glenville-Emmons to pass.
That proved to be the Clippers biggest mistake as Jarrad Knutson and the Wolverine passing
attack rolled up 213 yards through the air in a 28-22 victory.
&8221;These kids never give up and that was the case again in this game,&8220; said Glenville-Emmons head coach Derek Nelson.
&8221;Jarrad is starting to become the leader we wanted and expected him to be at the beginning of the season.
He is a lot more comfortable and he is taking his time making smarter decisions.&8220;
The Wolverines were trailing 22-14 when the Clippers scored with 9:02 left in the fourth quarter.
However, G-E did not panic as Knutson led them on a pair of scoring drives to get the team’s first win of the season and Nelson’s initial victory as the Wolverines head coach.
&8221;We have been in that situation so much this season where we are down by a score late in the fourth and it hasn’t worked out,&8220; said Nelson.
&8221;The kids just decided that this was their time and they were going to get it done.&8220;
G-E would tie the game when Knutson found Michael Greibrok on a 4-yard pass.
Knutson would hit Aaron Wuerflein for the two-point conversion to knot the game at 22-22.
Wade Flattum would haul in the winning score with 3:23 left in the game on a 21-yard strike.
While the offense punched the ball into the end zone when it needed it the most the defense gave it the opportunities with some big plays all game long.
The Wolverines keyed on Cleveland’s running game grinding that to a virtual halt and the defensive backs led by Logan Hansen who blanketed the Clippers best receiver all night.
Knutson led the team with 15 tackles on the night.
Wade Flattum got the scoring started in the first quarter with a 12-yard reception from Knutson and Justin Flattum would account for the other G-E first half score on a 45 yard pitch and catch.
&8221;We were really able to spread the ball around and kept the off balance,&8220; said Nelson, who saw Knutson’s 17 completions go to five different receivers.
G-E could have made a major statement in the first quarter as Wade Flattum and Knutson hooked up on an 84-yard scoring strike, but the play was negated because of a penalty.
The Wolverines improved to 1-3 in conference play and 1-5 overall.
