USC/AC wins its own invitational

FREEBORN &045;&160;The USC/AC boys’ and girls’ cross country teams each won their competitions at the &8221;No Frills&8220; Invitational held at Oakview Golf Course, Tuesday.
The girls were led by eighth grader Amber Erickson who finished fifth in the
individual competition. Becca Bryson (7th), Katie Schultz (11th), Joelle Elmer (12th), and Shelby Little (17th) were the other scorers for the Rebels.
The Rebel boys won by 40 points over their nearest competitors, Sibley East.
Brad
Tomschin led a 3-4-5-6 finish by the Rebels.
Eric Youngblom, Bryan Hauge, and Jacob
Elmer
made up that lead pack. Greg Opseth (11th) was the other scorer .
Karla Lewer led the NRHEG girls with a sixth place showing in a time of 16:56.
Heather Schmit (18th), Kelly Byron (42nd) and Megan Borchert (47th) rounded out the Panther girls’ squad.
Ben Waldhauser took 15th place for the boys coming to the finish in 18:54.
Nic Barnett and Derek Bartness each claimed top 50 finishes and Grant VerHey (52nd) and Matt Bartsch (67th) rounded out the NRHEG varsity squad which finished seventh in the team race.
Both teams will be back at Oakview Tuesday for the conference meet.
