Vera S. Wessels, 81, Albert Lea

Funeral services for Vera S. Wessels, age 81, of Albert Lea will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 4, at Grace Lutheran Church. The Rev. John Henriksen will officiate. Interment will be in the Hillcrest Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 7 p.m. Monday at Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the service at the church.
Vera died Thursday, Sept. 29, 2005, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.
Vera S. Wessels was born Jan. 16, 1924, to James L. and India (Glasgow) Houchin in Pierre, S.D. She had lived in the Albert Lea area for the last 65 years. Vera enjoyed word search puzzles, listening to country western music, and especially spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Survivors include her children: Joyce Amys and fiance, Gene Walls of Albert Lea, Darlene Anderson of Albert Lea, Linda and her husband, Gerald DeBoer of Hollandale, Virgil and his wife, Pat Harmdierks of Albert Lea, Gary Harmdierks of Hartland, Julie Flim of Albert Lea, and Larry and his wife, Penny Harmdierks of Albert Lea; 17 grandchildren; 17 great-grandchildren; brother, Ernest Houchin of Central City, Neb.; sister, Janice Dero of Albert Lea; special niece, Kairen Cummings; and many other nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Vera was preceded in death by her husband, Gerhardt Harmdierks; her parents; son, Melvin Houchin; one grandchild and two great-grandchildren; sisters: Eunice and husband, Harold Moser, Hilda Nelson, Lucille and husband George Martin, and Dorothy and husband, Nels Oquist; brothers, Alvin and his wife, Velma Houchin and Erwin and his wife, Donna Houchin; daughter-in-law, Jayne Harmdierks; and sons-in-law, Gary Anderson and Dale Amys.
