Myrtle Hagen, 92, Albert Lea

The memorial service for Myrtle Christine Hagen will be held at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday, Nov. 15, at Bonnerup Funeral Chapel in Albert Lea. Tim Hellie from the Kingdom Hall of Jehovah’s Witness will officiate. Burial will be in Bricelyn Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation will be one hour before the service at the chapel.

Myrtle died on Saturday, Nov. 12, 2005 at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea. She was 92 years old. The family would like to thank the staff of St. John’s 1st floor North for the special care given to their mother.

Myrtle was united in marriage with Helmer Hagen in 1937. They owned and operated The Silver Lake Store in Silver Lake, Iowa. They had lived in the areas of Nora Springs, Iowa, Mason City, Wells and Glenville and for the past six years Myrtle had lived in Albert Lea. Myrtle was one of Jehovah’s Witnesses for the past 30 years. She enjoyed crocheting, gardening, flowers, old time music, and playing the piano, French horn, and accordion. She was a great cook and time spent with her family and friends was special for her.

Myrtle is survived by four children: Arlowe Hagen of Gillette, Wyo., Brian (Dawn) Hagen of Albert Lea, Vicki (Monte) Swanson of Nora Springs, Iowa, Bradley (Vicki) Hagen of

Courtland, Minn.; eleven grandchildren: Danny (Wendy) Hagen, Jeremy (Tawny) Hagen, Keith Rathai, Kellie White, Lance Handy, Jill (Neil) Adams, Bret Swanson, Angela (Shawn) Holt, Jessica Swanson, Lacey Hagen, Cassidy Hagen; 17 great-grandchildren; one sister, Florence Miller of Wells; son-in-law, Jack McFarland of Carson City, Nev.; nieces, nephews and cousins.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Helmer in 1963; daughter, Naomi McFarland; grandchild, Shawn; two brothers: Floyd Erickson, and Donald Erickson.
