Sherman attended rural school and one year of high school when he had to return home to help with farming because of the depression years. Even though he didn’t have a formal education, he was an avid reader, particularly of history and all farm magazines. He loved every aspect of farming, and the farmyard became his pride and joy.
Sherman married Rosamond Jensen on Dec. 27, 1940, at the Wells Methodist Episcopal Church. They enjoyed working together in the farming operation. When his sons were in Cub Scouts, he was Cubmaster for two years.
He was proud of his membership in the Wells Lion’s organization from which he received the Melvin Jones Fellow award, the Service Award and in 2005 received a chevron for 25 years of membership.
He loved to play golf and enjoyed the Wells Golf Club where he served as president for several years. He was a member of the United Methodist Church all of his life and served in many offices. To serve his church was his joy.
In his shop he created many beautiful pieces of furniture for family and many friends. He was a perfectionist about his work. He was happy to be able to celebrate his 90th birthday with family and many friends. He was able to hold his two new great-grandchildren born in July and October. Sherman loved his Lord and kept his name honored. He was a gentleman and a gentle man. He will be greatly missed.
