Southern Minnesota Fire Departments earn national grants

WASHINGTON, D.C. &045; First District Congressman Gil Gutknecht today announced the Department of Homeland Security has awarded five Southern Minnesota fire departments grants as part of the 2005 Assistance to Firefighter Grant program.
New Richland’s volunteer fire department was among those departments, receiving $94,887 for operations and safety.
“First responders are critical to ensuring the safety of our citizens,” Gutknecht said. “I’m pleased the Department of Homeland Security has made a commitment to ensuring our Minnesota first responders have the resources they need to get their jobs done.”
In 2005, the Assistance to Firefighter Grants supports Fire Operations and Firefighter Safety, Fire Prevention and Firefighting Vehicles Acquisition programs. Gutknecht is the Chairman of the House Agriculture Subcommittee on Department Operations, Oversight, Nutrition, Dairy and Forestry, Vice Chairman of the House Science Committee, and a member of the House Government Reform Committee.
