Albert Lea team takes third at tourney

The Albert Lea Junior Gold Hockey Team took third place in the Breezy Point Junior Gold Hockey Tournament which took place Nov. 25 through 27.
The Tigers opened up against Aberdeen, South Dakota and jumped out to an early two goal lead before the game ended in a 4-4 tie.
Dalton Hanson had a pair of goals in the game, while Dan Hanson and Jesse Bangert each added one.
Nick Boncimino made 39 saves. but Aberdeen was able to score three times in the third to earn the tie.
Albert Lea would win its next game by a 7-4 tally over Leech Lake.
Dan Sharpsteen scored first for the Tigers assisted by John Nelson before Dalton Hanson added another goal to give the team a 2-1 lead after one period.
Brady Engelby would find the back of the net twice in the second period and Bangert scored a powerplay goal in the second to put the Tigers up 5-2.
Dalton Hanson and Engelby closed out the score with one tally each in the third.
Albert Lea would struggle against Fort Franis, Ontario as the Tigers fell 7-0 in its next game.
Boncimino was peppered with shots in the net and still made 41 saves in the game.
The Tigers closed out the tournament with a 3-1 victory over Pierre, South Dakota.
Bangert scored all three goals to record the hat trick.
Albert Lee finished just one point out of second place in the round robin tournament, and did it with just nine skaters and one goalie dressing for the games.
