Helmuth O. Werner, age 77, of Elmore, died on Tuesday, Jan. 24, 2006, at his home in Elmore.
Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Jan. 28, at 11 a.m. at Shiloh Lutheran Church in Elmore, with the Rev. Robert Roettger officiating. Visitation will be held at the Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn from 4 to 8 p.m., on Friday, Jan. 27, and one hour prior to services at church on Saturday. Interment will be South Blue Earth Lutheran Cemetery in rural Bricelyn with military honors by the Bricelyn American Legion Post. Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Bricelyn is in charge of arrangements.
Helmuth Otto Werner was born June 24, 1928, in rural Windom, the son of Albert and Olga (Zoeller) Werner. He married Marjorie Kindstrom on July 31, 1954, at the Good Shepherd Lutheran Church in Wells. He was employed at Musser Company in Wells; Harold Matz Fur Farm near Walters,and Winnebago Industries in Forest City, Iowa. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict and was awarded the Korean Service Medal with two bronze stars; Occupation Medal (Japan) and U.N. Service Medal. He was a member of Shiloh Lutheran Church and Nels Lee American Legion Post 165 in Bricelyn. Helmuth enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, gardening, playing pool and cards.
He is survived by six children: James Werner of the Twin Cities, Marsha and her husband Bruce Vaske of Ledyard, Iowa, Timothy Werner of Faribault, David Werner of Grand Rapids, Mich., Steven Werner of Fairmont, Michelle and (husband Tracy) Fjeldberg of Albert Lea; four grandchildren: John, Jason, Jenna and Jared Vaske of Ledyard, Iowa; and one sister Alfreida Johannsen of Freeborn; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Marjorie, and one brother Lawrence.
