Roger was born in Albert Lea on March 31, 1940, the son of Arthur R. and Astrid (Tangen) Hansen. He attended Albert Lea High School. He served four years in the U.S. Navy and was stationed in Puerto Rico. Following his time in the military he lived in the southeast portion of the United States, from Houston, Texas to Jacksonville, Fla., before returning to Albert Lea 10 years ago.
Roger
was employed by Streater, Inc. in the 1970s, where he was able to utilize his artistic talents as a draftsman. Although other career choices were considered along the way, he always fell back on his ability to create things with wood, and later retired as a carpenter, a talent handed down to him by his father and still practiced by his son. He had been a member of the American Legion and Albert Lea Elks Club to which he had donated the elk horns over the bar. He had great artistic abilities, enjoyed woodworking, classic cars, and dancing.
Roger is survived by his mother, Astrid Hansen of Albert Lea; son, Darrin Hansen and his wife, Dawn of Pratville, Ala.; daughter Janelle and her husband, Preston Sjoblom and their son, Aston of Delray Beach, Fla.; the mother of his children, LaDonna Hansen of Elizabeth Town, Pa.; aunt, Val Roggensack and her children: Ron Roggensck and Patty Houston and her family, Chris LeBourgeois, Rena Bonello and many friends.
He was preceded in death by his father Arthur in 1987; aunt and uncles: Norma and Warren Lenoch and Thelmer Tangen.
