Leslie Thisted, age 85, of Albert Lea

Leslie W. Thisted, age 85, of Albert Lea, died on Thursday, Feb. 2, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Home in Albert Lea.

Funeral services will be held Monday, Feb. 6, 2006, at 1:30 p.m. at Ascension Lutheran Church of Albert Lea, with Pastor Clark Cary officiating. Visitation will be held at Bruss-Heitner Funeral Home in Wells from 2 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Feb. 5, and one hour prior to services at church on Monday. Interment will be in the Mansfield Lutheran Cemetery in Mansfield Township, Freeborn County. Military honors will be given by the Freeborn County veterans organizations.

Leslie W. Thisted was born June 12, 1920, the son of Carl and Christina (Nielsen) Thisted in Alden. He married Doris R. Albers on October 4, 1943, at Mansfield Lutheran Church in Mansfield. She died in 1995. He married Ethel McFarland on April 29, 2000, at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Les lived in the Albert Lea and Mansfield area all of his life.

He served in the U.S. Army during World War II, and he was an ambulance driver in France during the war.

Les worked for many years at Universal Cooperative until his retirement.

He enjoyed playing cribbage, fishing and woodworking.

He was a member of Ascension Lutheran Church in Albert Lea and the Albert Lea American Legion Post and the Disabled American Veterans.

He is survived by his wife Ethel of Emmons; three daughters: Mae Fitzloff

of Fargo;

Dee (Larry) Bratrud of Mesa, Ariz.; Ellen (Keith) Wangen of Winona;

one son:

Bruce (Jody) Thisted of Amboy; one step-son: Paul (Cathy) Henschel of Emmons; 13 grandchildren; 21 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents, his first wife, and one daughter Lola Kay.
