Abby Rhiger, 72 of Albert Lea

Funeral services for Abby Louise Rhiger of Albert Lea will be held at 1:30 p.m. Monday, March 13, at the First Presbyterian Church of Albert Lea. The Rev. Dwight Netzer will officiate. Visitation will be Sunday from 4 to 8 p.m. at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour prior to the service at the church. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.

Mrs. Rhiger died Tuesday morning at the Albert Lea Medical Center. She was 72 years of age.

Abby was born Sept. 26, 1933, in Albert Lea, the daughter of Everett and Elsie (Rawson) Hiler. She was a graduate of Albert Lea High School and a resident of Albert Lea her entire life. On Dec. 27, 1954, she was united in marriage to Stanley Rhiger in Albert Lea.

Abby was employed at the switchboard at Lea College and as an accountant for the Lea Hotel before becoming the dispatcher for the Albert Lea Police and Sheriffs Dept for over 20 years, retiring Feb. 24, 1993.

Abby had been active in the American Legion Aux and served as unit president and 1st District president. She was also very active in REACT. In her free time, she had a love for cooking, her pets, gardening, her bowling league and being active in the community. She enjoyed bird watching and loved to travel with Stanley.

Abby is survived by her children, Tom Rhiger of Brooklyn Center, Sue Cornwell of Albert Lea, Joanne and her wife Diane of Minneapolis, Jeannette and her husband Bob Flatness of Albert Lea, Chuck and his wife Liz Rhiger of Albert Lea, Joel (Dawn) Rhiger of Albuquerque, N.M.; grandchildren Jason, Tania, Brian, Chad, Jessica, Matthew, Laura, Andrew, John and Corina; one great-grandchild, Brynn; and a sister, Elaine Bales of Bethesda, Md.

Abby was preceded in death by her parents; husband Stanley; and one brother, Everett (Bud) Hiler.
