Harold Monsen, 84, of Albert Lea

Funeral services for Harold J. Monsen, age 84, of Albert Lea, will be held at 11 a.m. Friday, March 3, at Bayview/ Freeborn Funeral Home. The Rev. Curtis Zieske will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by the Freeborn County veteran’s organizations. Visitation is 4 to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services on Friday.
Harold died Thursday, Feb. 23, 2006, at the New Richland Care Center.
Harold Johannes Monsen was born Sept. 11, 1921, to Harold and Marie (Tollerud) Monsen in Lyle. He grew up and went to school in the Lyle and Rose Creek area. Harold was confirmed at the Six Mile Grove Lutheran Church. On Aug. 25, 1943, he was united in marriage to Norrine E. Rockwell in Austin. Harold served in the United States Army during World War II. The couple farmed in the LeRoy area before settling in Albert Lea in the late 1960s. Harold worked for Wilson and Co. and continued to farm. After his retirement from Wilson, he worked as a custodian with Greenview. Harold was a member of the American Legion and Trinity Lutheran Church. He enjoyed motorcycles, yard work, and socializing with friends. Harold was well known for his keen sense of humor.
Survivors include his son, Severt Monsen and fiance, Diane Alymer of Columbia Heights; daughters, Julaine and husband, Jim Johnson of Hartland and Amber and husband, Mark Cameron of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Ryder, Bridget, Troy, Brook, Kerstin, and Autumn; great-grandchildren: Nora, Nathan, and Naomi; and nieces and nephews.
Harold was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Norrine; and brothers, Joseph and Glen Monsen.
