It took a big performance from a big player to slow down Northwood-Kensett.

Seven-foot Jordan Eglseder scored 41 points and grabbed 20 rebounds to record a double-double and lead Bellevue Marquette past the Vikings 66-47 in the Class 1A state semifinals.

Eglseder, a Division I recruit, scored his team’s first eight points to get the Comets out to a 20-10 first quarter lead and a 16-point advantage at the break.

The Vikings played nearly even with Bellevue in the second half but it was not enough to overcome the slow start.

Cody Hanson led N-K with 15 points and Preston Davidson added 12, but the hot shooting that saw the Vikings hit better than 50 percent of their attempts in their opening game win over North Mahaska was not there Thursday.

N-K shot just 36 percent for the game while the Comets were just under 50 percent thanks to Eglseder’s work in the post.

The Vikings, who had ridden great production from their starting five all season long, were limited as both Mike Bloomingdale and Dan Bestul were held to just 13 combined points.

Matt Midtgaard added four points, Bryan Koster had two and Tyler Stading had one.

The Vikings were able to contain the rest of the Comets’ squad not allowing more than eight points to any other player other than Eglseder.

Bellevue Marquette remained undefeated on the season with the win as it prepares for the title game against George-Little Rock while the Vikings saw their record move to 23-4.

N-K will play in the consolation championship today when it faces WACO, Wayland at Wells Fargo Arena.
