Two big innings helped Rochester Mayo down Albert Lea 17-2 Tuesday.
The Spartans scored eight times in the third inning as they pounded out eight of their 17 hits in the frame and took advantage of three walks by starting pitcher Dezeray Jacobs.
Jacobs tweaked her knee in the inning and left the game after five.
&8220;It wasn’t like they hit the ball extremely hard they were just able to find the holes,&8221; said Albert Lea head coach Chad Feikema.
The Tigers had a 1-0 lead after the first inning as Kat Ladwig led off with a single, advanced on a Chelsea Barrett sacrifice bunt and scored on a Shelby Vietze RBI single.
Albert Lea’s other run came in the seventh when Missy Webb hit a one-out double to get on and scored on a Vietze groundout.
Webb was the only Tiger to have more than one hit in the game as she went 2-for-4 at the plate.
Barrett pitched the final two innings for the Tigers working a scoreless sixth before the Spartans got seven in the seventh.
The Tigers are back in action Thursday when they host Faribault.
