Fred Wynia, 93, of Hollandale

Funeral services for Fred Wynia, age 93, formerly of Hollandale, will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, April 3, 2006, at the East Freeborn Lutheran Church. The Rev. David Hernes will officiate. Interment will be in the East Freeborn Cemetery. Visitation is 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday at Bayview/Freeborn Funeral Home and one hour prior to the services at the Church.

Fred died Thursday, March 30, 2006, at St. John’s Lutheran Home.

Fred Wynia was born Jan. 16, 1913, to James and Effie (Den Hartog) Wynia in Ocheyedan, Iowa. In 1923, he moved with his family to Hollandale, where he attended school. On July 3, 1933, Fred was united in marriage to Rosella Harpel. After their marriage, the couple farmed southeast of Geneva. In 1943, Fred and Rosella purchased their farm east of Clarks Grove on the south edge of Geneva Lake. They retired in 1978. Fred was a member of the East Freeborn Lutheran Church. He had served on the Clarks Grove Creamery Board, the Geneva Township Board, and the School Board. Fred and Rosella enjoyed traveling on tours and in their motor home.

Survivors include his daughter, Lavon Babb of Hollandale; grandchildren: Bill and wife, Vicki Babb of Albert Lea, Brenda and husband, Ray Carver of Caldwell, Idaho, Jim and wife, Vickie Babb of Hollandale, Barbara Babb of Virginia Beach, Va., and Frederick and wife, Charo Babb of Spain, and Denise Wynia-Wedel and her husband, James of Hennessey, Okla. Four great-granddaughters and several great-great-grandchildren.

Fred was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Rosella; sons, Noel and Dennis; son-in-law, Arnold Babb; granddaughter-in-law, Joy Babb; great-grandson, Corey Babb; sisters: Nell, Anna, Sarah, Hazel, and Bertha; brothers: Henry, Ed, Marion, George, and Alvin; and three nephews and one niece.
