JoAnn Catherine Johnson, 68, of Albert Lea

The funeral service for JoAnn Catherine Johnson of Albert Lea will be 1 p.m. Monday at Calvary Baptist Church, Albert Lea. The Reverend Dennis Seiler will officiate.
Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery.
Visitation will be 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea and one hour before the service at the church. Memorials are preferred in lieu of flowers to Crossroads Community Hospice or Breast Cancer 3 Day.
JoAnn died Thursday, April 20, 2006 at her home surrounded by her family after a courageous fight to beat breast cancer .
She was 68 years old.
JoAnn was born May 14, 1937 at Lake Crystal, Minn. to Joseph B. and Catherine Lorraine (Johnson) Sorenson. She graduated from Madelia High School in 1955 and graduated from St. Lucas Deaconess, Faribault, Minn.as an RN in 1958 (this was the last RN class to graduate from there). She lived at Madelia, Minn. until 1966 and then moved to Albert Lea. JoAnn married Howard E. Johnson
on January 9, 1960. JoAnn was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Albert Lea where she was the organist and pianist for over 40 years.
JoAnn worked as an RN for Riverland Community College and Naeve Hospital. She taught piano for 42 years. JoAnn enjoyed doing hardanger. She met every week with the hardanger group.
JoAnn also enjoyed growing her flowers, especially her roses. JoAnn was a very caring person. She especially enjoyed being a loving and caring wife, mother, and grandmother. Her family and music were her life.
JoAnn is survived by her husband Howard E. Johnson of Albert Lea; children: Jeffrey Johnson and his wife Mary of Apple Valley, Minn., Jerald Johnson of Minneapolis, Joel Johnson and his wife Mary of Burnsville, Minn., Julie Stoneking and her husband Steve of Albert Lea, Jill Vandenheuvel and her husband Tom of Albert Lea; 10 grandchildren:
Nicole and Danielle Johnson, Katherine Johnson, Andrew, Matthew, Emily and Timothy Stoneking, Amy, Tyler and Amanda Vandenheuvel;
brothers and sister:
Jim Sorenson and his wife Barb of Madelia, Minn.,
Lorraine Sill and her husband Richard of Madelia, Minn. and Bob Sorenson and his wife Jane of Hanska, Minn.; many nieces and nephews.
JoAnn was preceded in death by her parents:
Joseph B. and Catherine L. Sorenson.
