ROCHESTER &045;&160;One big inning for Rochester Mayo proved to be the difference as the Spartans downed Albert Lea 10-3 Tuesday.
A six-run third aided by three Albert Lea errors put the Tigers in a hole they could not dig out of.
&8220;You can’t give good teams extra outs because when you do bad things usually happen,&8221; said Tiger head coach Joe Sczublewski.
Aaron Senne was a force on the mound for Mayo striking out 17 in the game and walking just two.
The Tigers would find themselves down 7-0 before they were able to get a run in the top of the fourth.
Arik Matson, who went 2-for-2 in the game, doubled to get on and Ben Berhow brought him home with a two-bagger of his own.
Berhow drove in another run in the sixth while the Tigers’ third and final run came home on a wild pitch.
Nick Bunz, who took the loss on the mound, had the Tigers only other hit in the game.&8221;
&8220;Their pitcher had pretty good command, but we have to do a better job of making contact,&8221; said Sczublewski.
The Tigers now stand at 5-3 on the season and prepare to travel to Faribault on Friday.
