Nanko DeRaad, 94, of Clarks Grove

The funeral service for Nanko DeRaad will be held at 1 p.m. on Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea. Interment will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before services.

Nanko died on Saturday, April 8, 2006, at the Comforcare Good Samaritan Center in Austin. He was 94.

He was born on Jan. 11, 1912, in Iowa the son of John and Etta (Boelman) DeRaad.

He married Jennie Baas on Dec. 8, 1932, in Hollandale.

He was a Clarks Grove resident most of his life, owning and operating DeRaad Service Station in Clarks Grove from 1946 until he retired in 1976.

He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Clarks Grove. Nanko enjoyed working in his garden and yard, tending to his tulips, and walking.

He is survived by three children: Dona and her husband Harold Lechner of Oakland, Leslie DeRaad of Dodge Center, Joan McGregor of Panama City, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; a sister Dena Citurs of Albert Lea; and a brother Eldert DeRaad and his wife Avis of Clarks Grove.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife; two daughters Ruth Waldemar and Betty DeRaad; daughter-in-law Manuella DeRaad; and brothers and sisters Earl, John, Jerry, Etta, Ella and Minnie.
