Owatonna drops the tennis Tigers, 7-0

OWATONNA &045;&160;A talented Owatonna boys’ tennis team handed Albert Lea a 7-0 loss Tuesday.

Greg Peterson lost his first match at No. 1 this season 0-6, 2-6.

Jon Hatcher won a pair of games in both sets of his match but could not muster any more.

Scott Strom had a strong first set before falling 4-6, 0-6 and Josh Vu rounded out the singles action with a 1-6, 1-6 loss.

The top doubles team of Andrew Dyrdal and Corey Dieser suffered its first loss of the season with a lackluster 3-6, 1-6 decision.

&8220;They got off to a slow start and never really got in the match,&8221; said Tiger head coach Tom Dyrdal.

Josh Svendsen and Philippe Perrin, who was moved from No. 1 singles due to an illness that was hampering him, took the first set of their No. 2 doubles match 6-3 but dropped the final two 2-6, 3-6.

&8220;They had their chances but they could not get some big points to go their way,&8221; said coach Dyrdal.

Jon and Mike Bosma concluded varsity acton with a 4-6, 3-6 loss at No. 3.

&8220;It was super windy today and Owatonna just adjusted better than we did,&8221; said coach Dyrdal.

&8220;But we found some things we need to work on in practice.&8221;

The Tigers did pick up several junior varsity wins led by Jake Williams in singles play.

Doubles picked up the other seven Albert Lea wins. Matt Stoneking, Bryant Olchefske, Eric Volkman, Jake Thompson, Kevin Zogg, Sean Templeman, Evan Nolander, Geoffrey Cope, Elliot Light, Scott Johnson, Drew Passingham, Levi Peterson, Joe Polis and Ben Robinson all won.

The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they travel to Rochester to face John Marshall.
