Paul Weigel, 81, of Albert Lea

The Funeral Service for Paul &8220;Swede&8221; Francis Weigel will be at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, April 25 at St. Theodore Catholic Church. Father John Traufler and Deacon Mike Ellis will officiate. Military honors will be accorded by Albert Lea Veteran’s Organizations.
Interment will be in St. Theodore Cemetery at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, April 26.
Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Monday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, and one hour before the service at the church. There will be a prayer service at 7:30 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Swede died on Saturday, April 22 at the Good Samaritan Center.
He was 81.
He was born on November 20, 1924, in Topeka, Kan., the son of Christopher and Julia (Lenhart) Weigel.
As a young boy his family moved to Albert Lea and he attended St. Theodore School.
Swede married Dorothy M. Giles in August of 1943.
He served our country in the U.S. Army from August of 1945 until July of 1946. He was an employee of Wilson and Co. for 43 years and also co-owned and operated Maid Rite from 1946 to 1953.
Swede was a life member of the V.F.W. and the American Legion. He enjoyed music and had played with the band, Doc’s Ramblers, for 17 years. Woodworking was also a favorite hobby.
Swede is survived by four children:
Robert Weigel and his wife Linda of Glenville, Julia and her husband Harlan Latusek of Wells, Larry Weigel of Albert Lea, Fred Weigel and his wife Robin of Albert Lea; grandchildren: Terry Latusek, DeeAnn Latusek, Douglas Weigel, Kevin Weigel, Cassie Boettcher, Larry Weigel Jr., Andrew Weigel, Paul B. Weigel,
Tara Roberts, Mitch Kortz and A.J. Kortz; 19 great grandchildren; brothers Francis Weigel and his wife Helen of Phoenix, Ariz., Dominick Weigel of Black Duck, Minn.; sister Catherine Callahan of Browerville, Minn.,
Marie Pick of Waldorf, Minn., Albert Lea, and many nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife Dorothy, daughter Barbara and brothers Joe, John, Sylvester and Adam and a sister Anna Ludwig.
