NEW RICHLAND &045; The Albert Lea and Glenville-Emmons softball teams both won two of three games Saturday at the NRHEG Tournament.

The Tigers came within 60 feet of nearly finishing the day a perfect 3 of 3, but still had a very strong tournament.

The Tigers began with a 9-4 victory over Waterville-Elysian-Morristown as Albert Lea pounded out 12 hits in the game.

Albert Lea (3-6) trailed 4-2 heading into the bottom of the sixth inning when it exploded for seven runs.

After back-to-back walks Liz Thompson, Alyssa Paulson and Alicia Reyerson all had base hits to break the inning open.

Kat Ladwig would also rope a double in the frame to score runs.

Vietze and Thompson each had two hits in the sixth.

&8220;The pitching was a little slower than what we are used to so we were way out in front early on,&8221; said Albert Lea head coach Chad Feikema.

&8220;But the girls adjusted and were more patient.&8221;

Dezeray Jacobs, who pitched all three games for the Tigers, got the win striking out seven and walking just three.

She also got strong defensive support with Albert Lea playing error free ball behind her.

St. Clair would hold a 3-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh in the Tigers second game.

However, Albert Lea would make it interesting beginning with a Paulson walk and a Reyerson free pass which put two on with two outs.

Ladwig would drive in one run with a base hit and Chelsea Barrett plated another with a single.

Ladwig would advance to third but would make it no further as the game ended 3-2.

The Tiger defense was strong yet again committing just one error and allowing a single run in three innings despite the Cyclones rapping out 12 hits in the game.

The Tigers final game saw them win 7-2 over the host Panthers.

Jacobs went the distance striking out two and she did not issue a walk.

&8220;She pitched really well for us all day, gave us a chance to win every game and the defense made the plays behind her,&8221; said Feikema.

The Tigers had 15 hits in the game led by Missy Webb, Vietze and Thompson who all went 3-for-4 at the plate.

Barrett and Paulson also had multi hit games.

The Panthers jumped out to a 2-0 lead by the fourth frame, but AL responded with seven unanswered.

&8220;Playing three games in a day helped our confidence and hopefully propels us to more success,&8221; said Feikema.

The Wolverines lost their first game to the Panthers 3-1 despite a strong pitching performance from Lindsey Lorenzen who gave up three hits, struck out five and threw 65 of her 81 pitches for strikes.

The Panthers were able to take advantage of a couple of G-E errors to take control of the game late.

Jordan Claussen led the Wolverines going a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate and Chelsey Ziebell drove in the team’s only run.

G-E bounced back to demolish Bethlehem Academy 10-0 in five innings.

Claussen pitched a no-hitter against a young team striking out six.

Claussen had a hit and scored three times and she also stole five bases in a game the Wolverines dominated on the base paths.

G-E would finish its day with a 9-6 win over WEM.

The Bucs would score all six of their runs in the first inning before Lorenzen would shut them out over the final six frames.

&8220;I was happy with the girls’ effort going 2-1 at the tournament and 4-2 in a week where we played a lot of softball,&8221; said Wolverine head coach Lisa Ziebell.
