FAIRMONT &045; The Albert Lea boys’ tennis team got dominating performances up and down its lineup in handling Fairmont 6-1 Tuesday.
Philippe Perrin found himself down 5-1 in the first set of his No. 1 singles match, but the Tiger junior battled back to force a tiebreaker.
Perrin dominated the tiebreaker winning 7-2 and taking the first set 7-6.
He closed out the match with a 6-1 second set win.
&8220;I was very proud of Philippe for hanging in there early against a very hot player and pulling it out,&8221; said Albert Lea head coach Tom Dyrdal.
Greg Peterson had little trouble in his match winning 6-3, 6-1 and Jon Hatcher dropped just two games at No. 3 winning 6-2, 6-0.
Dan Howard found himself in a marathon match at No. 4 singles that lasted two and a half hours before he finally fell 3-6, 6-3, 6-7 (7-9).
&8220;It was a match that you hated to see anyone lose because they both had a couple of match points,&8221; said Dyrdal.
&8220;But I give Dan credit because he was down 1-5 in the third set and fought back to get into the tiebreaker.&8221;
Albert Lea dominated doubles play with the top team of Andrew Dyrdal and Corey Dieser breezing to a 6-0, 6-0 win before Josh Vu and Josh Svendsen earned a 6-1, 6-2 victory.
Jon and Mike Bosma closed out the strong night for the Tigers with a 6-1, 6-0 victory at No. 3 doubles.
&8220;We were the better team today and it showed,&8221; said coach Dyrdal.
&8220;The doubles teams dominated play at the net and played aggressive.&8221;
The win improved the Tigers to 2-0 on the season, but the competition will stiffen in the next week as Albert Lea enters Big Nine Conference play.
Albert Lea is at Faribault on Thursday.
The Tiger junior varsity was also victorious winning 5-1.
Scott Strom won his singles match while Even Nolander, Drew Passingham, Scott Johnson, Jake Williams, Jake Thompson, Ben Robeinson, Brad Mclaughlin and Tom Delano all won doubles matches.
