Bunz helps power Tigers’ win

Nick Bunz did a little bit of everything for the Albert Lea baseball team as it downed Winona 8-6, Tuesday.
Bunz pitched a complete game striking out seven and walking one. He found himself in a couple of jams throughout the game but was able to get out relatively unscathed as the Winhawks left 10 men on base.
Bunz’ effort on the mound was bettered only by his display at the plate where he drove in the Tigers’ first five runs.
He had a three-run double in the first inning to give the Tigers a 3-2 lead and followed that up with a two-run
home run in the third.
&8220;Bunz showed a lot of guts on the mound and swung the bat well,&8221; said Albert Lea head coach Joe Sczublewski.
Winona tied the game in the fifth inning at 5-5, but Nate Goodnature made a tremendous diving catch in centerfield with two runners on and two out to keep the damage to a minimum.
Albert Lea would score one run in the bottom of the fifth and added two more in the sixth when Winona had tied the game once again in the top half of the frame.
Goodnature walked in the sixth and Matt Friedman singled and advanced on an error. Both runners came around to score on balls in the dirt to secure the victory.
Bunz went 2-for-2 in the game while both Matt Schumann and Arik Matson added two hits apiece.
The Tigers are back in action tomorrow when they host Rochester Century for a doubleheader.
