MABEL &045;&160;The Glenville-Emmons baseball team took its first step in what it hopes is a long and successful final few weeks to its 2006 season Monday.
The Wolverines downed second place Mabel-Canton 9-3 to win the Southeast Conference title for the third consecutive season.
G-E started slow giving up two runs in the first inning and did not get on the board itself until the third.
&8220;We struggled the first time through our batting order but than we got going,&8221; said Wolverine head coach Louie Toulouse.
The Wolverines seized control of the game in the third by scoring five times in the frame. With one out, Wade Flattum, Justin Flattum and Michael Greibrok all strung together hits before Logan Hansen delivered the big blow thanks to a bases clearing double.
G-E would score two more times in the fourth as it pounded out 10 hits in the game.
Hansen, Greibrok and Justin Flattum all had two hits in the game for G-E and Garrett Davis added a double.
Bridger Bjorklund picked up the win for the Wolverines as he settled in nicely after the first.
He gave up just eight hits, struck out two and did not walk any batters.
&8220;This is the third straight game that he has pitched very well and he is getting a lot of confidence pitching at this level,&8221; said Toulouse. &8220;It is nice to win the conference but we have bigger goals that we are hoping to accomplish over the next couple of weeks.&8221;
