Hilbert Lahs, 91

Memorial service for Hilbert S. Lahs, age 91, will be at 11 a.m. on Friday, May 12, at First Lutheran Church, Albert Lea. The Rev. Dan Baker will officiate. Burial will be in Graceland Cemetery. Visitation will be from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday at Bonnerup Funeral Service, Albert Lea.

Hilbert died on Sunday, May 7, 2006, at home with his family.

Hilbert Sherwin Lahs was born Feb. 22, 1915, to Henry and Winifred (Purdie) Lahs in Faribault County. He attended and graduated from Albert Lea High School. Hilbert served in the United States Army during World War II for three years, as a radio operator. He served in Africa, Italy, France and Germany with five battle participation awards. On Nov. 1, 1945, he was united in marriage to Elvira Wigern in Kiester, Minn.

Hilbert worked for Wilson & Co. for 41 years as a laborer. He was a member of First Lutheran Church, VFW, Eagles, Fountain Lake Sportsman Club and YMCA. He enjoyed gardening, reading, fishing and was an avid Twins fan.

Hilbert is survived by his wife Elvira of Albert Lea; daughter Nancy and her husband Jerry Fulfs of Albert Lea; grandson Chad and his wife Heather Fulfs of Albert Lea; great-grandchildren, Samantha and Jennifer Fulfs of Albert Lea; sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law: Garnet and Kenneth Rajewsky of Bowman, N.D.; Omer Wigern of Kiester; Lee Ann and James Kronlokken of Eden Prairie; and many nieces and nephews.

Hilbert was preceded in death by his parents; parents-in-law, Anton and Palma Wigern; son, Dan Lahs; sisters, Charlotte Lahs; niece, Linda Wigern; brothers-in-law, Albe Wigern; Bill Rasmussen and sisters-in-law, Esther Rasmussen and Marie Wigern.
