Lucille Brown, 81, of Albert Lea

Lucille &8220;Lucy&8221; Augusta Zentgraf was born in Wahpeton, N.D., on Aug. 20, 1924, to Robert and Christine (Deede) Zentgraf. After high school, she took courses at a business school, worked in a bank for a while, and then joined the WAC Purple Heart Platoon in 1945. She met her husband Arthur (Art) Brown while she was a ward administration clerk at Baxter General Hospital, Spokane, Wash., and he was a patient after being wounded while serving with the 90th Infantry in Czechoslovakia. They were married three weeks later (Aug. 27, 1945) in the post chapel. After discharge they lived in Seattle for two years. They then moved back to Moorhead, where they built a home and had four children. They were married for 58 years.

Lucille was secretary/office manager of the Fargo-Moorhead Credit Bureau, a member of the Real McCoys Homemaker Club (later called Sew-Chat- & Eat), a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, and along with her husband, a charter member of the Circle 8 Square Dance Club in Moorhead.

Traveling, camping, fishing, boating, square dancing, and sewing or making crafts were things they enjoyed together. They also wintered in Apache Junction, Ariz., for 15 years.

Lucille and her family were members of Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead. Her father was a deacon of the church when the present church was built.

Lucille died on May 5, 2006, at the Good Samaritan Center, Albert Lea, at the age of 81.

She is survived by her four children, Linda (Wayne) Applegate of Albert Lea, Larry (JoAnn) Brown of Richfield, Minn., Bonnie (Lynn) Grieger of Willmar, Minn., and Ken (Lynn) Brown of Moorhead; nine grandchildren, Stephanie (John) Schneider, Ryan (Corinne) Applegate, Daniel (Esther) Applegate, Stacy (Shawn) Zimney, Eric Brown (fianc Tiffany Olson), Christopher (Erika) Grieger, Troy Grieger, Shawn (Sarah) Brown, and Shelly Brown; seven great-grandchildren, Zachery and Maddie Schneider, Cadyn Brown, Isabel Applegate, Logan Brown, and Heather and Dylon Zimney; a sister, Shirley (Gordon) Brakke; and nieces, nephews, and cousins.

Lucille was preceded in death by her husband, Art; her parents; and her great-grandson, Tyran Brown.

Visitation will be in the Korsmo Funeral Service Chapel, Moorhead, on Thursday, May 11, from 6 to 8 p.m. with a prayer service at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be held at Our Redeemer Lutheran Church, 1000 14th St. S., Moorhead, on Friday, May 12, at 10 a.m. Memorials may be designated to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church in Moorhead.
