Errors kept the Albert Lea Legion baseball team from winning the first game of a doubleheader against Winona. Offense and pitching carried Post 56 to a victory in the second game.
Playing with a roster of just 10 for the two games, Taylor Ignaszewski came up with a big pitching performance to help his team to the 13-11 victory.
Ignaszewski pitched the final 2 1/3 innings allowing two earned runs without walking a batter to help AL win.
&8220;He was our last pitcher and he was able to work out of some jams to get the job done,&8221; said Albert Lea head coach Matt Trygstad.
Ignaszewski gave up doubles to the first batters he faced but buckled down to throw a scoreless seventh. He did get help in the sixth from his defense as Mitch Wenum, Matt Schumann and Josh Jordahl swung a double play to get their pitcher out of a jam.
Post 56 rapped out 13 hits in the game led by Jordahl who went 2-for-2 with a double and three walks. Jared Gavle had two hits and drove in three while Schumann, Wenum and D.J. Kjos also had two hits.
Gavle and Wenum drove in runs in the sixth to give Albert Lea the lead and Schumann drove in Jordahl in the seventh to add some offensive cushion.
Joel Eisenbraun had a three RBI double in the first inning as Post 56 got off to a 6-0 lead.
The Tigers had a chance to take both games but three errors allowed Winona to score the eventual winning run in the sixth without the aid of a hit. Winona took the first game 6-5.
Albert Lea trailed 6-4 going into the seventh before Schumann singled and Arik Matson tripled him in. However, Matson would be stranded at third.
Albert Lea, which is back in action Thursday when it hosts Owatonna, got seven hits from seven different players in the game.
