With the minimum nine players for three games over the weekend at the Minnesota Lake Tournament the Glenville-Emmons Legion team struggled to an 0-3 record.
G-E lost its only game Saturday 8-6 to Wells before dropping two on Sunday. The first loss came to Mapleton 5-1 before Fairmont downed G-E 12-4.
Against Wells, errors proved to be costly for G-E which committed eight in the game.
&8220;We had kids out of position with only nine there and we just didn’t field well,&8221; said G-E head coach Louie Toulouse.
Wells was up 6-1 heading into the third before G-E struck for five runs.
Devin Kaasa had a bases loaded single to drive in the first run and Nathan Cooper plated two more with a single. Kaasa scored on an error and Cooper came home on a suicide squeeze by Ethan Weiss.
Mapleton scored five unearned runs off Michael Greibrok who struck out six and walked just one in the G-E loss.
Cooper scored the team’s lone run on a Weiss RBI single.
Fairmont scored 11 first-inning runs en route to victory as it sent 15 batters to the plate before G-E recorded an out.
The G-E defense would record three double plays in the game to hold Fairmont to just one more run in the game.
Greibrok finished the two days going 6-for-10 to lead the way.
G-E now sits at on 1-7 on the season.
