Harry Beulke, 79, of Virginia

Harry Beulke, age 79, of Virginia, died Friday, June 9, 2006, at St. Mary’s Medical Center in Duluth. He was born June 18, 1926, in Fairmont, the son of Otto and Lily (Wiebe) Beulke. Harry graduated from Fairmont High School. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and was ultimately honorably discharged from the U.S. Air Force. His service included time overseas in the Philippines. Harry attended Mankato Teacher’s College, and graduated with his bachelor of arts degree in teaching.

On Dec. 27, 1956, he was united in marriage to Mary Sheimo in Lake Mills, Iowa. He taught social studies at Buffalo Center, Iowa and Wells. Harry then attained his Master’s Degree in Education Administration from Montana State University, and was the principal in Comfrey and Wanamingo, Minn., and the assistant principal in Albert Lea. He was principal of the Virginia High School from 1971 to 1986. Harry was a lifelong member of the American Legion and VFW in Fairmont. He was also a member of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church, the Retired Educator’s of Minnesota, and S.C.O.R.E. He enjoyed reading, golfing, and gardening. Harry also loved spending time with his grandchildren.

He is survived by his loving wife of 49 years: Mary; son: Marc (Jill) Beulke of Maple Grove; grandchildren: Baylee, Beckee, and Braeden Beulke of Maple Grove; niece: Diane (Verdell) Bothun of Cave Creek, Ariz.; nephew: Warren Beulke of Bloomington; and other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; sisters: Opal and Ruby; brother: George; and sister-in-law: Martha.

A visitation for Harry will be held from 12 noon until the 1 p.m. memorial service on Monday, June 12, 2006, at Our Savior’s Lutheran Church in Virginia. The Rev. Bob Simensen and Aim Brenda Tibbetts will co-officiate at the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date at Ft. Snelling National Cemetery in Minneapolis.
