Kiester makes few changes to festival

KIESTER &045; Some things will change at this year’s Kiester Days but more will be staying the same.

The biggest change at this year’s festival, June 22 through 25, is the car show Saturday at 8 a.m. which will no longer be a competition.

&8220;It seems to me this might work well,&8221; Civic and Commerce committee President Duane Pederson said. &8220;It’s just going to be laid back. If you’ve got an old car, come and have some fun and talk with the other guys.&8221;

In previous years, Pederson said, there was an entry fee for the car show and prizes were handed out.

The standard fun run was also canceled but a toddler trot will still be held Saturday at 9:30 a.m.

The community church service was moved to the Kiester Kee Theater Saturday at 9 a.m.

Other Friday events include:

The celebration will begin with a picnic in the park Thursday from 5 to 7 p.m. Polish sausages, hot dogs, baked beans, chips and beverages will be served. A free-will donation will be taken. The United South Central school jazz band will provide entertainment at the event.

In case of rain the event will take place in the Kiester Middle School cafeteria.

Friday events include:

Cow chip bingo is scheduled for 5 p.m. on South Main Street.

The Lion’s steak fry is scheduled at the Kiester Legion from 5 to 7 p.m.

An 8 p.m. street dance is scheduled at Forever Bermas.

Other Saturday events include:

The Maple Cafe will serve food specials from 6 a.m. to 3 p.m.

A 9 a.m. softball tournament is scheduled at Kiester athletic field. A co-ed volleyball tournament will take place at the park. A boys’ and girls’ three-on-three basketball tournament

is also set for 9 a.m.

A toddler obstacle course with prizes for all is scheduled for 9:30 a.m. at the park.

Bingo is scheduled at Kiester City Park from 9 to 11 a.m.

An 11 a.m. parade is scheduled featuring the USC Rebels marching band.

The Penny family will be performing at the Kee Theater at 2 p.m.

A Kiester Legion cook out is scheduled for 7 p.m.

Sunday events include:

The Kee Women Belgian waffle breakfast will take place at Kiester Middle School from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
