WASECA – The Albert Lea Legion baseball team lost its season opener to Waseca 3-0 Tuesday.

Albert Lea got a good performance out of starting pitcher Nick Bunz who went the distance walking just one and striking out 12.

&8220;Nick played a good game but offensively we looked like a team that has had a week off since the end of the high school season,&8221; head coach Matt Trygstad said.

Waseca managed just single runs in the first, third and sixth innings, but that proved to be enough.

Albert Lea had five hits in the game getting runners on first and second with no outs in the second inning but could not convert. Taylor Ignaszewski, D.J. Kjos, Nate Goodnature, Arik Matson and Levi Langseth accounted for all of the team’s hits in the game.

Albert Lea also put a pair of runners on in the seventh but with two outs already recorded, it was a little too late to start the rally.

Albert Lea is back in action Thursday when they host Austin at 7 p.m. at Hayek Field.
