A memorial service for Vanda Pauline Dunn will be held at 1:30 p.m. Saturday, June 17, at First Baptist Church, Clarks Grove. She died Nov. 30, 2005, in Corona, Calif., at the age of 95.
Vanda Pauline Dunn was born Sept. 4, 1910, on a farm south of Clarks Grove, to Nels and Hannah (Peterson) Larson. She grew up on a farm near Lerdahl and attended a rural school (District 24) in Riceland Township. Vanda worked for a number of years for Petrans and later was a cook for the Freeborn County Jail while Helmer Myre was sheriff.
After her father died, she returned to
Lerdahl to help her younger brother, Gilbert, farm. On Nov. 1, 1939, Vanda married Walter H. Dunn of Ellendale, and they farmed 2.5 miles northwest of Geneva until 1967, at which time they built a house in Clarks Grove. They resided there until 1977, when they moved to Corona, Calif., where they had wintered for 10 years previous to their move. Vanda belonged to First Baptist Church of Clarks Grove before joining Crossroads Christian Church in California.
We remember
Vanda for the things she liked to do such as traveling with her husband in their motorhome and growing roses. She was a great cook, a hard worker and a fun storyteller.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband Walter in 1982; brother Raymond Larson; sisters Anne (Reuben) Peterson, Emma (Viggo) Sorenson, Ella (Garrett) Posthumus and Vivian (Merrill) Nelson. She was also preceded in death by her stepdaughters Lois (Walt) Cook and Florence (Osmer) Ryland.
Survivors included a brother Gilbert (Harriet) Larson of Minnesota; a sister Doris (J.C.) Kraay of Arizona; a son Lloyd (Joy) Dunn of California; a stepson Wallace (Janet) Dunn of Minnesota; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
