Bulldogs win a thriller

LAKE MILLS &045;&160;The Lake Mills softball team closed out the home portion of its schedule with a 2-1 victory over North Kossuth.

The Class 2A 11th-ranked Bulldogs were down to their final out before coming through against the third-ranked team in Class 1A.

Trailing 1-0 entering the bottom of the seventh, Melissa Brackey leadoff with a double before scoring two outs later on a Megan Pederson single. Pinch runner Kari Haugsdal would score the winning run from first on a Courtney Eidness double to left field.

&8220;We have lived dangerously all season,&8221; said Lake Mills head coach Jim Boehmer. &8220;Fortunately we have come out on top many times but we need to score early.&8221;

Pederson picked up the win going all seven innings allowing three hits and striking out two.

Four different players accounted for Lake Mills’ four hits in the game.

The victory avenged an earlier loss in the season for the Bulldogs to North Kossuth.

Lake Mills now sits at 32-4 overall while North Kossuth falls to 30-5.
