G-E downs No. 1 seed, heading to districts

The record is not impressive but the results of late sure have been for the Glenville-Emmons Legion baseball team.
G-E, which entered the weekend with a 3-14 record won three sub-district games &045; including a victory over top
seed Dodge County &045;&160;to advance to the Division II First District Playoffs Thursday in New Richland.
The team began its run by downing Adams 4-2 Thursday.
Justin Flattum pitched a complete game giving up seven hits while striking out five and not issuing a walk.
G-E had a 4-0 lead heading into the bottom of the seventh before Adams scored twice, but a pair of flyouts ended the game.
Saturday, G-E faced New Richland in its first game and came away with a 17-7 six inning victory.
Devin Kaasa had a big day at the plate going 4-for-5 with three runs scored and two RBIs. Kaasa also pitched the first four innings of the game striking out four and walking one.
Nathan Cooper and Jarrad Knutson each had three hits while Cooper added four RBIs. Joe Williamson also had two hits including a two-run home run in the second inning.
&8220;All of the sudden we are getting the hits from everyone when we need them,&8221; said G-E head coach Louie Toulouse. &8220;We are getting good pitching and two-out hitting.&8221;
G-E out hit New Richland 19 to 10 in the game as it scored nine runs in the final three innings.
Against top seed Dodge Center, G-E trailed 2-0 heading into the fifth inning. However, Cooper would start the rally reaching on an error before Aaron Wuerflein and Knutson drew walks to load the bases. Michael Greibrok had a two-RBI single to center and when the centerfielder misplayed the ball the third run scored.
G-E would add three runs of insurance in the seventh thanks to a big two-RBI double from Wade Flattum.
&8220;They were up 2-0 and we knew we couldn’t sit back,&8221; said Toulouse. &8220;I think we kind of shocked them when we scored three runs. I don’t think they thought we could do that.&8221;
Greibrok pitched his second straight impressive game going the distance striking out seven and giving up just eight hits.
&8220;He worked very well and was ahead most of the game,&8221; said Toulouse.
G-E will face LaCrescent in New Richland at 7:30 p.m. Thursday in the double elimination tournament.
&8220;We finally did the things we knew we were capable of doing,&8221; said Toulouse. &8220;The biggest word for it is execution. They weren’t things out of the ordinary we just did the little things, pitched well and played pretty good defense.&8221;
